Project objectives
The aim of the project is to understand the mechanisms that control the dynamics of pollution in soils, taking into account the multiplicity of pollutants, their ageing and the highly heterogeneous nature of degraded sites. It will lead to modelling flows of pollutants in soils, in order to characterise their bioavailability and their impact on organisms and, in the plan applied, to promoting the development of innovative treatment technologies as part of a strategy for requalification of industrial wasteland. Work will take place in industrial wasteland in Lorraine, focusing on site work thanks to the creation of an experimental station equipped with instruments for tracking the evolution and impact of pollution.

The GISFI, whose work is integrated into the international scientific context, particularly through European programmes, also contributes to structuring research in Lorraine in the domain of sites and soils. Lastly, within the framework of the Homécourt "Environment Engineering Centre", designed to promote clean technologies for decontamination and treatment of industrial waste, it supports the economic development of the Lorraine region.

1. Modelling flows of pollutants
in the short, medium and long term in anthropized soils
key compartments of soils
llaws governing flows

residence times of compounds and balance sheets;
this means modelling:

- elementary processes (designs and model samples)
- complex systems (long term field tests)
2. Highlighting interactions
between pollutants
and organisms
response of micro-organisms, plants and fauna,
landscaping, ecological reserves

natural attenuation

mpact on human health
3. Controlling flows
by technology
diagnosis and biological treatments (e.g. phytoremediation)

physico-chemical treatment processes

influence of management modes on flows
